Saturday's at the Coffee Bar
This place is so wonderful and well designed. I head over to Coffee Bar often - even though I live in a totally different part of town. The open, industrial style architecture, free wi-fi, low maintenance staff and clientele, and random location all contribute to this. Only snapped a few shots - wish I had more of the chandeliers, sitting area, etc. Here is a link to their yelp review with many more photos.
A few obscure observations - the pic behind the counter is of the bus yard up the block, they serve the best bowl of oatmeal in the city, and people set up shop and hang out there all day for the wi-fi and atmosphere. Also, I believe the chef from Circolo (across the street) comes in a few nights a month and does a fixed meal while someone usually spins beats.
Tre chic.
Luff this place.

Bathroom Mirror
Love it. Found this mirror in the bathroom at a restaurant on Union Street. Love the restored wood, love the Lake Tahoe reference. Wondering where/who made it. I want one!!
Guess it's time to buy a table saw and go steal some signs from up north ;)
P.S. I look really scary in this photo. Remind me never to go out with out a nose and with long hair. Oh wait - check - chopped off the hair last week - and when I'm not too busy chasing it, I'm pretty sure I still have a nose on this face somewhere. Alright, clearly time for me to sign off and post. Adios!

O.O. - Old LA
On my last biz trip to LA walked through a building to get to where I was going - and came across these artifacts in the hall. How beautiful... Can't you just imagine detectives from the Black Dalhia making calls back to the paper with breaking news in these little rooms. Or debonair gentlemen with trench coats and scarfs, smoking cigars?
I hope craftsmanship doesn't go out the window completely in our time. Reasonable for it to be redefined - and there is some beautiful, modern design today. I just hope we don't completely detour from natural materials and classic lines.
Amazing how pay phones are now obsolete...

Software Bug Photo Art
We may be taking in a rescue kitten - and the other day in one of her rare moments of actually staying still - I used my iPhone to take a picture and a strange software bug produced these two photos - both of which were taken very close up to the kitten, and somehow resulted in wide angle shots.
I love when mistakes are beautiful. Most are...

Post-It Trend Arising
Anyone notice a plethora of Post-It art entering the scene? I wonder if there is an application for this - so you can easily make your own. Kinda want one on my wall at home :) Below are some lovely artworks made possible by Post-Its.

Grammy Posters
Saw a few people blogging about this today and couldn't resist. TBWA Chiat/Day produced these really stunning posters for the 2009 grammy's. They are quite beautiful.
Knowing that Chiat/Day also does the ads for the iPod, I like seeing the rainbow theme pulled in, something Casey mentioned as well over at Design Muse Blog.

Had fun reading about Puccino's Cups
TheDieLine wrote about Puccino's Cup designs recently. Got a kick out of reviewing some of the designs Waldo Pancake/Jim Smith came up with. Below are a few of my favorite:

Trying out Zemanta to write about my favorite things...
Image via Wikipedia
Zemanta is a pretty cool tool I came across through recommendations made on twitter. As you type the content of a post in your blog platform, a bar on the side looks up related content and images that might be helpful.I am interested in seeing if I start blogging about things I like - like package design, print design, jewelry, photograph, nature, etc - whether I will get helpful updates.
It may be that my post is a little too general right now, but figured it was worth a try!
Above is one of the more interesting images that came up :) And while I was writing, Zemanta provided me with helpful links like the ones above to 'Zemanta' and 'package design'.
The one annoying this is that it changed the way my images are embedded in the text. I like them individually posted below my text. Maybe there is a setting I can change...
My initial conclusion is that it won't necessarily help me find interesting content on the fly, but if I already have a specific topic I will be writing about, it may help me with some links and images.
Coo.
