Another Book for the Wishlist

Candida Höfer's book titled 'Libraries' is one I want to look through over and over again. Makes you want to start touring libraries all across the world. I came across these amazing images randomly one day and couldn't remember where I had seen them. I had a co-worker point me back to the blog last week.

Here are some images to simply soak up and enjoy. I am off to find the book in print...

Green Design from 1963

Found this post in a work related search the other day. Soon discovered the active conversation alive online around this piece of green design from decades ago. I love the relevance 40 some odd years later. Maybe not the most ideal recycled material for building, but great out-of-the-box thinking from 'Freddy' Heineken.

John Habraken is the architect behind the design. There is a brief entry on wikipedia dedicated to the Heineken World Bottle.

Water on Glass - An Obscure Shower Series

I love how the last two look like falling water. It is just the water sliding off the shower door (and my reflection).

Sunrise in San Francisco

I got up early to exercise the other day. Can't say I enjoyed the exercise all that much but it was worth it just to see the sunrise that morning...

Hold the Sun in a Jar

Delight.com is one of my favorite sites to browse. They have great eco friendly, design conscience products. Above is an image of the SunJar, a solar powered glowing mason jar that will light up your room up to 5 hours after sunset if it has been sitting in the sun all day. I like how it gives off a soft glow, as if you've really captured some of the sun's energy...which is what solar power is all about. I wonder how well it works... I'll let everyone know if I end up getting one.

Some other items that caught my eye on the site:

Reusable Grocery Bags:

Woodgrain Folders:

Rex Ray

I really like Rex Ray's work. I am going to go buy his new book 'Art + Design'. When I was looking up the book online I came across this great video describing how he came up with his distinct style. Having studied and worked in graphic design just long enough to recognize all the things that make it very difficult to stay invested in, I really appreciated his description of his personal journey to where he is today. View Video Here

He reminds me of an artists that I found inspiring back when I was in art school...Beatriz Milhazes. There are a lot of similarities in their work. I can't remember how I came across Beatriz's work. I think she may have been featured at the UCLA Hammer Museum at some point. I hope to see her come out with a book at some point...

Crissy Field Geometrics

There was something I liked about the way the geometrics turned out in this picture I took last weekend...

Binge Blogging

I would like to coin a new term based on my blogging activity. I am self-proclaiming myself as a Binge Blogger. Since I started this blog I go dark for weeks at a time and then post several posts in one day...all at the same time. I find it very efficient, but will soon have to figure out a way to incorporate blogging into my daily activities. Okay...maybe weekly activities to begin with. Starting now :) This is the first time I have posted more than once in a month!!

It's the beginning of the end...

Update: As Urban Dictionary has all things relevant to pop culture...looks like binge blogging already exists. Still coining it :)

fresh Product Design

I had a friend buy me a fresh eye shadow set last year for my birthday. She knew how much I would simply love the package design. She was right. Today I went into Sephora and saw even more of their product line and fell in love with their package design all over again. I'm not a big make-up person, so for me half the fun is just the purchasing experience, which is so often dictated by the look and feel of the product... fresh is my forever favorite when it comes to presentation. I will look forward to each new line they come out with, just to see the box that they put it in!

Pigeon Party

For some reason I thought it was cute.

Trick Advertising

Why do I always see this ad on Mondays?

A Drive On A Cloudy Evening

I went down to Stockton to grab dinner with an old roommate from college, that was in town from Hawai'i only for a few days. I was terribly tired and the two hour drive was not my idea of a good time after a really long day at work. But, I really wanted to see my old roommate, it had been forever since we had seen each other. So as I drove I took a moment to enjoy the sun that was setting in my rear view mirror, making the dreary landscape of i-5 anything but.

Pictures from Airplanes

It is a strange love of mine...I always take out my camera phone while on the airplane. There is something I can't resist about the specific perspective and the built in frame of a airplane window (when I choose to include it in the pic).

I may try to make an on going series out of this. Gotta make sure I fly often enough to keep the content flowing though :)

One Of My New Favorite Sites

I've been meaning to post about this site for some time now. My co-worker reminded about this as he navigated through my blogroll the other day and discovered it himself. His excitement reminded me that I have to posts some props to the site!

The site is called Faces in Places. Not only is it a clever idea, but immediately after coming across it for the first time, I started seeing faces everywhere. Usually cute little faces with button noses staring out at me from outlets and bathroom fixtures. But the creative entries to this blog, which is focused entirely in finding faces in random objects and locations, are quite captivating.

A few of my favorites:

After posting all the favorites that I came across from the Faces in Places blog I discovered this flickr collection of Faces. Awesome!
